‘Thali’, the remote hill state of Kinnaur, was not the everyday travelers’ interest. It was a curious place till the freelance American journalist came, had accident and stayed in the century old Shiva temple situated amongst the rocky hills in the North West part of the state. Somehow he believed in the saying of the local Gujjar tribe and after fully convinced gave name ‘The Whispering Hills of Thali’.
Dr. Krishna Yadav, M.S., FRACS, MNAMS, FICS, is presently a senior Paediatric Surgery Consultant at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. She had her training in general and paediatric surgery at various hospitals in Australia. She was the first Asian woman to get an FRACS in surgery and become a member of Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a member of the Paediatric Association of Australia. On her return, she worked at the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh as clinician, teacher and medical researcher. She has written books in her specialty and has to her credit over 187 scientific papers published in national and international medical journals. She was nominated as Senate Member of Punjab University. Besides medical books she had published few fictions, ‘The Zamindar’s Bahu’, ‘Janams (Re-incarnation)’, ‘Kailash – the mystic land of Shiva’, ‘Behind the Green Mask’, ‘The Lure of Dhauladhar’, ‘The Royal Bargain’, ‘The Song of Mountains’, ‘The Road to Hudsar’ and ‘The Barossa Valley’. She is also the chief editor of the Journal of Paediatric Surgery in Developing Countries.
